A VR headset, a relatively dependable internet connection and a little bit of imagination: here’s all you need to create your very first virtual mural! But how, you ask? With the Kingspray platform, with which we’ve had some fun last summer during the 9th edition of MURAL Festival, that’s how!
Indeed, this platform allows you to create murals in a virtual environment. No spraypaint cans to buy or handle, no bad wall textures to deal with, no angry landlords to sweet-talk. It’s a completely different way to create, and a great departure from traditional mural art, and yet – this technology offers unexpected and infinitely attractive opportunities.
During the festival, we called upon mostly digital artists: Cryote and Samuel Arsenault-Brassard, who also created several augmented reality pieces for our 2021 edition.
Painted live in front of curious strollers and festival-goers, the pieces were projected onto the wall of a neighboring parking lot thanks to high-technology equipment, including razor-sharp projectors, graciously provided by our partner Panasonic. Each artwork might have lived in the real world for just one night, but they all certainly have left a lasting and colourful impression in our memories – and our photo archives!
Many thanks to our partner Panasonic for their support in the realization of this project!
